There was a change in the atmosphere today, everyone seemed to be on the verge of “stepping out” and showing their true colors. Everyone was just about ready to throw off their shields. The day was long and exhausting, but full of break-throughs. Starting off with a Spiritual Practices class (or Practicum, if you’re Joy
) where
we began with wiggling, moved to staring at each other, and then out of windows. Learning that just as we go through different ways to see God, God is meeting us in that “in between” and getting just as close as God can. I find alot of comfort in that idea. There are multiple times when I think that the only people seeing what I do for God are the people around me, and it’s not for them! Haha. Almost as if they’re eavesdropping on my little secret with God. But as Syngman Rhee said yesterday, you can be personal without being private and I guess that can apply here also.
We furthered the day with two more classes, one being the end to a 2 day History of Ancient Christian Communities course and the other a beginning to a Reformed Theology mini-course. Both were incredibly intriguing, but if I were to be honest with you, I’ll tell you that Reformed Theology is not a good class to take after lunch and with a full belly. Hahahaa. During classes we all had a chance to take a stand for some things that spoke to us, such as the order of being “a member” of the Protestant Church and the way in which we were all able to express why we felt the way we did and the support that was apparent from everyone.
Then came the truly exhausting part of our day! Not that we did anything incredibly physical but the sun and the heat truly drained us all as we made our way to downtown Richmond to the William Byrd Community House. There we learned what it means to come together as a community and have something to show for it, for example the “farmlet” that Ms Patty was so incredibly proud of. Through this we visited the farmer’s market and bought groceries to create a meal together. And lemme tell you a small secret, I don’t do the “organic” “go green” food and what not that we found at the Farmer’s Market, so I was really skeptical about the whole deal….but! I really think that was the BEST hamburger I’ve ever eaten and those potatoes were pretty much killer. No skepticism necessary
As we cooked and walked and grumbled about the heat together yesterday, I feel like some real bonds were formed and I’m thankful for that.
But, now, it is indeed late and so I leave you with an awful conclusion to a web post.
